A muffler is a device that allows airflow while blocking or reducing sound propagation, serving as a critical solution for mitigating aerodynamic noise. A microperforated panel (MPP) absorber consists of thin panels (<1.0 mm thickness) with microholes (≤1.0 mm diameter) at a perforation rate of 1–5%, backed by an air cavity (5–20 cm thick) without additional absorbent material. This design creates a low acoustic mass and high acoustic resistance resonant structure. The sound absorption coefficient and bandwidth depend on the panel’s acoustic mass (*m*) and resistance (*r*), which correlate with hole diameter (*d*) and perforation rate (*p*).
